3G/HSPA Network Shutdowns

Eastlink has fully decommissioned its 3G/HSPA network at the end of 2020. To enjoy Eastlink’s network coverage, you must be using a 5G or 4G LTE phone.

In Canada

As of July 31, 2025, other Canadian carriers are starting to fully shutdown their 3G/HSPA network. To ensure proper service continuity while leaving the Eastlink network in Canada, we recommend you upgrade to a device that supports 5G or 4G/LTE.

If your device was purchased from Eastlink, has the latest software update installed, and VoLTE is enabled in your device settings, the following devices support VoLTE roaming in Canada:

• iPhone 6 or newer

• Samsung Galaxy Z Flip/Fold or newer

• Samsung Galaxy S10 or newer

• Samsung Galaxy A10e, A21, A51, A71 or newer

• LG Velvet, LG G8, LG G8X, LG K41, LG K61

• Any Motorola sold by Eastlink in 2022 or later

• Alcatel GoFlip3 and TCL Flip

If your device was purchased from Eastlink, the following devices are not VoLTE roaming compatible in Canada: 

• iPhone 5 or older

• Samsung Galaxy Note8, Note 9

• Samsung Galaxy S7, S7 edge, S8, S8 Plus, S9, S9+

• Samsung Galaxy A5, A8, A10, A20, A50, A70, XCover4

• LG XPower3, LG Stylo 4, LG G6, LG G7 One, LG Q60, LG Q70, LG K30

• Alcatel Go Flip

If your device was purchased from another carrier, VoLTE roaming compatibility in Canada will vary:

• iPhone 6 or newer supports VoLTE roaming

• Any compatible Samsung, LG or Motorola phone model that was sold by Eastlink but purchased from a different Canadian operator supports VoLTE roaming

• Google Pixel 6 and newer supports VoLTE roaming

• All other devices - unknown

In the United States

On July 1, 2022, mobile providers in the US shut down their 3G/HSPA networks, including in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. If your device doesn’t support 4G LTE data and Voice over LTE (VoLTE) roaming, you won’t be able to use voice (including emergency 911 services) or access data in the US.

The US 3G shutdown affects any device that does not support 4G LTE data and VoLTE roaming, regardless of mobile provider. If your phone is listed below and was purchased from Eastlink, it does not support 4G LTE data and Voice over LTE (VoLTE) roaming:

• iPhone 6 or older

• Samsung Galaxy Note8, Note 9

• Samsung Galaxy S7, S7 edge, S8, S8 Plus, S9, S9+

• Samsung Galaxy A5, A8, A10e, A20, A50, A70, XCover4

• LG XPower3, LG Stylo Plus, LG G7 One, LGQ60

• Alcatel Go Flip
